Federal / Entrepreneur

Persons applying in this class have to meet the definition of entrepreneur, meaning must have business experience, must have legally obtained at least $300,000 of net worth, and must provide a statement that it is intended to open a business in Canada that complies with set requirements. Business experience has to be documented by ownership, financial statements and employee records, and must be proven for at least two years out of the last five years. Further, the entrepreneur must accumulate at least 35 points using a selection criteria point system.

The business planned to be open in Canada must also satisfy set requirements with respect to ownership equity, financial performance and employee(s). Passive investments are not allowed, but partnerships are feasible as long as the entrepreneur immigrant participates in managing the company. The entrepreneur will have two years time after landing to set up the company, which he/she must run for one full additional year. After this time the federal Government in form of Immigration Canada will ask for proof that these requirements are fulfilled.
